Minerva Yarns and later Columbia Minerva yarns produced Stylebooks, filled with Crochet and Knitted Fashions.
The Stonehenge Suit Ensemble , Minerva Yarns Stylebook Vol 30, 1933.
I had never heard of Minerva yarns. Was Columbia Minerva the “same” company? Turns out, yes, eventually. As with all vintage works, determining the yarn/fibre content is a research project unto itself. I was able to determine that the original yarn was a laceweight/ CYC 1, wool. Wool is not as affordable as it once was. Before committing to this cost, I opted to use a less expensive , yet still natural fibre option. This skirt is constructed of a bamboo/cotton blend yarn instead of wool.
“Minerva Tweed” stitch? What is this? First the crochet mesh pieces are made. Secondly the complimentary colored yarn is woven through the mesh to create the desired ‘tweed’ fabric. Oh is that all?!
I chose to attempt the skirt first, as it was the simplest design, least amount of increases/decreases.
I am continuing to chart out the jacket and coat, with intentions to begin creating those pieces in 2022.
